Redeemed
Pride and Prejudice
Sunday - March 1st
This Sunday Rob Lea brings us the talk in the latest of our EBC services. We encourage you to reflect on the bible text and join us in the prayer that follows below.
Prayer
Lord God, we thank you that by your grace alone we have been rescued through our faith and trust in Jesus Christ who alone is our redeemer.
Along with the psalmist we pray, ‘Search us, oh God, and know our heart; test us and know our anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in us and lead us in the way everlasting.’
Father God, we each echo the words of Job this morning, ‘I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth.
AMEN
Questions to Consider
-
What is your understanding of redemption generally, and Christian redemption in particular?
-
Can you think of a time when you were offered help, support, or even good advice and you refused it? What were your reasons?
-
C.S. Lewis wrote ‘There is no fault [pride] that makes a person more unpopular, and no fault that we are more unconscious of in ourselves.’ If you agree, can you explain why that is? Can you give any examples?
-
In a similar sense, prejudice is easy to see in others but harder to recognise in ourselves. Do you have any examples of this?
-
In what sense is Jesus your redeemer?
-
Can you answer ‘yes’ to the following questions?
A. Do you recognise and acknowledging sin in your own life?
B. Do you repent of all sins committed?
C. Do you receive by faith the truth that Jesus Christ is your rescuer, your redeemer?
D. Do you accept that redemption is not something we can earn; it is a gift from God and by his grace alone?
7. Do you accept that if you have answered ‘yes’ to these last 4 questions, you have not reached the end of your spiritual journey? What’s next for you?
