Hands, Face, Space

On Wednesday, the Prime Minister gave us all the latest update at the coronavirus press statement. You may have spotted in his talk, and on his lectern, the words “Hands, Face, Space”.

I got to wondering about those words from our perspective as a Christian community. Here are some challenges for us on the theme of our hands, face and space –

HANDS

Giving or grasping? Holding or hurting?

FACE

Warm or cold? Smiling or sneering?

SPACE

Making space for God, or shutting Him out? Being relationally close to people, or distant from them?

Let me invite you to ponder those challenging questions in the week ahead. When you (like me) recognize that there are times when we grasp at things, when we’re cold and distant to God and other people, or when we sneer at people… pause. Let’s confess those things to God and ask His help in changing so that we do the opposite things.

It’s so easy to be grasping and self-centred, or to sneer at people or shut them out. There is a pandemic out there – a pandemic of hands, face and space being used to grasp, hurt, sneer and distance ourselves from others. But – Good News! – the vaccine for this particular pandemic is already here – it’s in our hands, face and space being surrendered to the God of love, and His will for the way we use them.

We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love.

God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. (1 John 4:16 NLT)

Blessings
