I have just started reading a book called The Experience which tells the story of Disney went about creating a fantastic experience for all their guests at their theme parks. There are some great lessons for leadership and for life in the church too.
In the second chapter the authors talk about how Disney seeks to create 'Disney Ambassadors' on their staff teams. They want their employees to be ambassadors for their company. They want their employees to be raving fans of Disney. The say this about ambassadors: "The word ambassador comes from the Medieval Latin words ambactia and ambactiare, which mean to "go on a mission."
This really struck me. Followers of Jesus are called to be ambassadors for him. One of Jesus' first followers - a guy called Paul says this in a letter he wrote to people living in Corinth "We are Jesus' ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us." (2 Corinthians Chapter 5 verse 20).
I was challenged by this. How good an ambassador am I for Jesus...are my words and actions creating a good impression of the 'Jesus' brand? And similarly how good an ambassador am I for my church...are my words and actions creating a good impression of EBC?
I think all of us who are followers of Jesus and a part of EBC need to be challenged by this. So as you read this perhaps you could ponder on the question "how am I doing as an ambassador?"
