James and Julia Henley

Many years ago I found myself standing back stage at the Birmingham International Conference Centre. I was about to go on and be presented together with several others as a fully fledged Baptist Minister to the Annual Baptist Assembly.

As I stood there I was thinking about all the sacrifices me and my family had made to reach this point. Then I looked over to my left and standing there was a young family - Mum, Dad and two very young children. I wondered what they were doing so I started chatting to them and I found out they were about to go off to the South Pacific to start new churches. Suddenly my sacrifices didn't seem so significant. Compared to this family who were about to travel to the other side of the world, james and juliawith two young children, to a poor and impoverished country, to help people in need discover and encounter God, my sacrifices were nothing. They were going on the stage after us to be prayed for.

I continue to remain in awe of those who choose to give up family, friends and a comfortable life to go out to far flung places to take God's love to those who might not otherwise hear about it. They are real heroes as far as I am concerned. James and Julia Henley are off to Peru in May 2011. We are just beginning our relationship with them as we seek to support them in their new adventure.
