Our 2011 Trip
Later this year (June 2011) Chris Porter and Rob Lea (one of our Church Leaders and our Treasurer) will be leading a team of 11 people who will be travelling to Sierra Leone to continue to build links with Abs, DST and Regent Road Baptist Church. The trip will be between Tuesday 21st June and Wednesday 29th June.
Practical Projects
As part of the trip the team will be working on various practical projects. These will include some work at the Leonard Chesire Children’s Home in Freetown and some IT training with the DST students and graduates. They will also be visiting and encouraging various other groups working with people with disabilities including the School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Representatives from the group will also be meeting with government ministers and officials to continue the campaign for the rights of people with disabilities.
Forging Links
The team will also be growing our links with Regent Road Baptist Church and will be visiting the church on the Sunday morning.
Motivation
As well as the work that can be done whilst the team are in Sierra Leone, one of the key reasons for going is to see first hand the needs and situation of the people in Sierra Leone. We expect to be challenged and appalled by the poverty, but also inspired to come back to motivate our church and community to be more engaged and involved with helping to support the needs of our brothers and sisters.
