Sierra Leone 2010

In June 2010 Rob Lea and Chris Porter travelled to Sierra Leone to visit Abs Dumbuya one of our church members who is currently living in the country establishing the work of a charity called the Dorothy Springer Trust. Rob and Chris spent a week in the country and visited Government Ministers, various organisations helping people with disabilities and met the students that are being sponsored by the Dorothy Springer Trust.

They also visited Regent Road Baptist Church in Freetown (the oldest Baptist Church in Africa) and joined with them on the Sunday for a celebration service for their 218th anniversary. Chris preached in the service which lasted for 3 hours - the service not the preach!

It was an amazing trip and both Rob and Chris fell in love with the country and its amazing people. Despite the desperate poverty that is all around (Sierra Leone is one of the poorest countries in the world) the spirit of the people is remarkable. We hope that this trip will be just the start of our relationship with the country and with Regent Road Baptist Church and the Dorothy Springer Trust.

Here are some photos from their trip.
